CHIAROSCURO
CLOSEPatternfly honores the 350th anniversary of Rembrandt van Rijn’s death by launching the fine art CHIAROSCURO collection. The title comes from the Golden Age in the Renaissance and was the technical term used by the artists for the use of contrasts of light.
‘My goal of this abstract fine art photography CHIAROSCURO collection is to sense the Golden Age.’
Instead of imitating his famous painting technique, I wanted to achieve the abstraction by sensing the CHIAROSCURO. The method that I applied for this experiment had many similarities with the processing of a set design. My starting point was making a scale model of objects. The composition of the objects together with the lights ultimately determines how the scenery will actually look like. Especially when it comes to the set design but also to the macro photography. In this context the figure seems to wear dark clothing with golden decorations and a purple turban. This figure has many similarities from the paintings of Rembrandt but in an abstract way.
‘The most remarkable moment was the capture of the golden appearance.’
CHIAROSCURO collection is now available to be exhibited and for purchase in a limited edition (of 25). All individual prints are numbered and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
